This week's ask the Expert is something a little different, we reached out to Miami food stylist Adeline Waugh of @vibrantandpure who has created her own space on the internet to share her love and passion of healthy eating and innovative food styling & design.
.She started playing around with natural food dyes in her kitchen and loved the paintbrush effect she could make using a variety of different colours. Adeline now enjoys challenging the status quo by developing beautifully vibrant recipes using only the purest of real food ingredients.
Adeline’s trend setting work has been globally celebrated and buzzed about in Vogue, Food&Wine, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Huffington Post, Refinery 29, Elle, Eater, Vice, DailyMail and more. We took the time to interview Adeline and find out a little bit more about her internet success.
How did you start out in the profession?
About two years ago, I was working in event planning and not feeling very stimulated. Around this time I started to become obsessed with healthy eating and lifestyle after researching and discovering that a cleaner diet could help with my long suffered cystic acne.
When did you discover your love of healthy eating/food styling & design?
I started Vibrant&Pure as a place to share my healthy recipes, but quickly realized I was also super passionate about the styling and aesthetic of food. I then had the opportunity to work as a food stylist for a commercial, and I was hooked.
What did you do before?
I worked in event planning, but wasn’t entirely sure what I really wanted to do with my life.
What makes you so unique? What makes me unique is that I am me. No one else is, it sounds corny, but you have to believe in yourself and your ideas or no one else will. I try to think of things I would like to see put out there, that no one else is doing, and attempt to do them. What do you think makes a fabulous food design creation?
Something visually enticing, something that looks delicious, something that inspires someone else to recreate it.
What’s your go to choice of food to design/style?
Toast!
Talk us through a typical day in the life?
I wake up, have some coffee and water with lemon, and get started on answering emails. Then, I’ll often have a few calls, and after that I get started on whatever projects I’ve been working on. I work with a lot of brands doing content creation, so I’ve often got a few balls in the air on a given day.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I mostly get to be my own boss, and that I get to be creative!
What is your ultimate career goal?
My ultimate career goal is to be always evolving and get to a place where I’m working with my absolute favourite brands doing what I love every day. And- to have a beautiful cookbook (which is in the works!)
Quickfire Questions What’s your signature holiday style? Simple and classic. A combination of bright colors and prints with minimal fuss.

Sea Sun-cream or Tanning Oil?
Cream What smell reminds you of holiday the most and why?
Neroli and coconut- because of that classic sun lotion scent!Where is the best beach you’ve ever visited?
I’ve visited many beautiful beaches, but my favourite is in Bethany Beach, DE because it reminds me of my childhood and being with my family. How do you adapt your diet on holiday?
I like to allow myself indulgence! Life is short. Plenty of fries and tequila (: What’s your go-to beach activity?
Boring- but probably just lying out in the sun! (protected of course, I’ve finally learned!) What’s the next book you want to read on the beach?
There’s a few books on mindfulness I really want to read. I’d like to immerse myself and educate myself more on the topic. Do you have a go-to holiday location?
Anywhere with a beach! What swimwear piece and beachwear pieces from the Melissa Odabash SS18 collection would you choose to spoil yourself?
The Cancun Bikini- I love striking prints and bright blues, and every girl needs a string bikini, I’m obsessed!
