Power of Women Awards 2020

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Dress for Success Greater London held its 4th annual Power of Women awards, recognising women and significant work in their respective field. Over the years, Dress for Success has spotlighted many inspiring individuals dedicated to transforming the narrative of women in workplace including Angie Greaves, Lucy Choi and Marisa Drew.

The 2020 Power of Women awards was held at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, London and Melissa was invited as a keynote speaker for the event. The night was made extra special as she was granted ‘Brand of the Year’ award. Focusing on the International Women’s Day theme #EachforEqual – a call for gender equality across the board, Melissa joined Dress for Success founder Juanita Ingram to discuss the everyday challenges and path to running a successful business.

Here’s a  small excerpt from  Melissa's keynote  speech:

"Don’t give up on your aspirations and don’t compromise – believe in yourself that you can achieve anything and don’t depend on others to get you there. Don’t be afraid to try many fields to narrow it down to what brings you happiness and success. Failure is one of the best things in business – it only makes stronger in your next venture; kind of like relationships, it teaches you what you want and don’t need. Remember, on your path to success treat all colleagues as equals; remember they are the ones helping you achieve your goals.”
